I grew up with my grandparents, since both my mom and dad had to work I was left with the loving care of my grandparents. Most of my fondest childhood memories include my grandfather. I remember back in pre-school my grandfather will fetch me from school and we’ll just walk on our way home, he would carry me in his shoulders and he’ll always buy me some junk food or chocolate without telling my mom. You can say that I was a bit spoiled by them and I am their favorite grandchild, they would always favour me against my other cousins. When my grandfather was diagnosed with lung cancer, I was so devastated and I was always on his side whenever he was hospitalized. I will assist the one taking care of him and I was in charge in his medicine schedule. I think I cried an ocean of tears when he died and it has been ten years since his death but I still miss him so much.
I guess, this is the reason why I have so much respect and compassion about the elderly and I always want ensure that they are provided with best care when they are already too old to take care of themselves. This is what I like about our culture, we try our best to take care of our elderly. But if you can’t take care of them yourselves you might as well send them to the best nursing homes that you can find. This is to show how much we love and care for them. After all, they do deserve only the best care there is.

Dear Emmyrose,
I commend you for feeling that the elderly should be respected. So many of us today show no respect to their elders- even their parents…it is encouraging that a young lady such as yourself still believes in caring well for the elderly. I have just lost my father and I miss him terribly. I would give anything to hold his gnarled hands and massage his arthritic feet just one more time…..
I love your blog.
Blessings and God’s comfort,
Glenys
