In my personal quest to somehow ease the effect of Lupus in me, I’m always at the lookout for new medicines, new research and ways to improve my condition and avoiding the dreadful flares. It has been said over and over again that Lupus is a chronic illness, something that I would have for the rest of my life and although I’m not going to contradict Science I am claiming for complete healing through my faith in God. Somehow I know that God will release me from all these pain in His own perfect timing and for now I just need to be patient and work on some ways to somehow live with Lupus with grace…
My first step was changing my diet. I’m not really a health buff and I enjoy comfort foods a lot but I have strictly followed a diet to help boost my immune system and who knows, it might be helpful for you too.
1. Cook with Olive Oil. Excessive fat intake does impair immune system response to illnesses, however monounsaturated fats found in olive oil does not have this effect, it may even strengthen our immune system. Canola oil can be used as replacement if olive oil is not available.
2. Eat a lot of fruits, at least two to three times a day.
3. Consume vegetables at least once a day. This one was tough for me since I don’t really like vegetables but we all need it to have a good defense on any sickness.
4. Make eating fat-free live-culture yogurt a daily habit. It strengthens our immune system and I usually start my day with it as part of my daily breakfast, along with oatmeal or bread.
5. You do need something fishy, especially the ones that are high in omega-3 fatty acids such as salmon and mackerel. Fish is also the healthiest of meats that we can have in our diet.
6. I love chicken and it was a sacrifice on my part to take out its skin and just eat it at least two to three times a week.
7. Avoid red meat! Need I explain more?
